Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI)
– IHI is an independent not-for-profit organization dedicated to healthcare improvement. Their website lists free course offerings, including the IHI Model for Improvement which is model promoted by the CHAM PI group.
Intermountain Healthcare, Institute for Health Care Delivery Research
– Intermountain Healthcare is a world leader in quality and safety for healthcare systems. Their website provides free course materials including readings, tutorials, and video webcasts for their world renowned Advanced Training Program (ATP).
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)
– AHRQ is one of twelve agencies in the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Their mission is to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of healthcare in the US. Their website provides an extensive list of educational materials, research tools, data reports, funding opportunities, endorsed quality metrics, and many other resources for quality improvement leaders.
National Quality Forum (NQF)
–
NQF reviews, endorses, and recommends use of standardized healthcare performance measures. Performance measures, also called quality measures, are essential tools used to evaluate how well healthcare services are being delivered. NQF's endorsed measures are often invisible at the clinical bedside but quietly influence the care delivered to millions of patients every day.
Children’s Hospital Association/NACHRI
– NACHRI advances child health through innovations in the quality, cost and delivery of care. Representing more than 220 children’s hospitals, the Association champions public policies that enable hospitals to better serve children and is a resource for pediatric data and analytics, driving improved clinical and operational performance of member hospitals. Formed in 2011, Children’s Hospital Association brings together three organizations: Child Health Corporation of America (CHCA), National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) and National Association of Children’s Hospitals (N.A.C.H.).
Ohio Children’s Hospitals Solutions for Patient Safety
– Launched in 2009, Solutions for Patient Safety was founded by a group of Ohio Children’s Hospitals to improve quality and reduce costs. The partnership has realized significant results through its
initial efforts
: a 60 percent reduction in surgical site infections in designated cardiac, neurosurgery and orthopedic procedures and a 40 percent reduction in overall adverse drug events. These efforts have saved 7,700 children from unnecessary harm and avoided $11.8 million in unnecessary health care costs. These initial success were translated into a national collaborative of over 70 Children’s Hospitals (including The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore) all working together to eliminate preventable harm for children. Specific healthcare associated conditions focused on by the collaborative and The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore include: surgical site infections, central line-associated blood stream infections, readmissions, falls, pressure ulcers, adverse drug events, obstetrical adverse events, ventilator associated pneumonia and catheter associated urinary tract infections.
Patient Safety Primers
– This resource guides you through key concepts in patient safety. Each primer defines a topic, offers background information on its epidemiology and context, and highlights relevant content from both AHRQ PSNet and AHRQ WebM&M.
